The joint management of Norway and Russia in the Barents Sea has been successful in conserving the living resources and is a major factor contributing to the present rich fisheries in the area. The basis for this is scientific research, which to a large extent has been conducted through a long-lasting cooperation between Russian and Norwegian scientists that has expanded greatly over the past half century.
